Internet Use Policy

Policy for using computers and the internet.

Computers are used to support learning. Patrons must sign in to computers. No one under 18 can use the computer unless a parent/guardian is sitting beside them.

The Internet offers vast, diverse, and unique resources. The use of Internet at the library is a privilege, not a right, and inappropriate use will result in a cancellation of those privileges.

Inappropriate uses are as follows:

  1. Using the network to access a file that contains pornographic pictures/materials.
  2. Using the network to send/receive messages that are racist, sexist, and/or contain obscenities.
  3. Using the network to send/receive inflammatory messages.
  4. Using profanity, obscenity, or other language which may be offensive to another user.
  5. Using the network for financial gain, commercial activity, or for any illegal activity.

Responsible Users:

  1. MAY NOT use the internet for illegal purposes.
  2. MAY NOT use impolite or abusive language.
  3. MAY NOT violate the rules of common sense and etiquette.
  4. MAY NOT change any computer files that do not belong to the user.
  5. MAY NOT download extremely large files.
  6. MAY NOT send anonymous messages of any kind.
  7. MAY NOT give their name, address, or phone number on the internet.
